The company began as TACT Services, Inc. when it purchased IRATEX, a local cartage company that had been doing business at DFW Airport since 1977.  In 1995, TACT acquired AirTrans Immediate Response, Inc. which also was a cartage company working at DFW Airport, we changed our name to AirTrans Freight Services, Inc. In 1998, AirTrans acquired Metroplex Delivery Service.  Through these acquisitions and internal expansion, AirTrans has become a full service freight company. 

In 1997, the Dallas Business Journal gave AirTrans an Honorable Mention as a leader and pacesetter as an emerging company in the DFW area.
